New York, NY - On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic voyage from the Netherlands to New York, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is sending The Milkmaid, perhaps the most admired painting by the Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. To celebrate this extraordinary loan, the Metropolitan Museum will present Vermeer’s Masterpiece The Milkmaid, a special exhibition beginning on September 10, which will also include all five paintings by Vermeer from its collection, as well as a select group of works by other Dutch artists, placing Vermeer’s superb picture in its historical context. The exhibition will mark the first time that the painting has traveled to the United States since it was exhibited at the 1939 World’s Fair 70 years ago

Rijksmuseum - вопрос
Aug. 12th, 2008 11:08 amФренды, которые недавно были в Rijksmuseum в Амстердаме, расскажите из первых уст (сайт я уже читала), что там происходит в свете реконструкции музея? Много ли чего закрыто? Я так понимаю, что работы будут закончены только к 2012-2013 году, а так долго мне ждать не хочется :)

Британский английский для американцев

"The following program contains accents that you would have heard a lot more of if you hadn’t thrown our tea into Boston Harbor. To find out what on earth anyone is talking about, please turn on closed captioning.” :))))))))))))))))) - по-русски говоря, они сообщают американцам, что в передаче они услышат разные британские варианты произношения, которые бы были гораздо привычнее американскому уху, если бы американцы в свое время не устроили Бостонское чаепитие. Поэтому, чтобы понять, о чем идет речь, включите субтитры.
Ну или вот так: ""Not even British people can follow the British accent 100 percent of the time. Therefore you, like me, might want to use closed-captioning"
Но если говорить серьезно, неужели, кто-то из нейтив спикеров на самом деле при просмотре английских передач пользуется субтитрами??? Что-то не могу в это поверить.
